Uppsala University welcomes you to attend the first Swedish conference on the writings of the Canadian author Lucy Maud Montgomery (1874–1942). It will be a conference that celebrates the 100th anniversary of Anne of Green Gables in Sweden.

Montgomery’s world famous novel was published in Sweden already in 1909, the year after its original publication in the United States. But not only was the Swedish translation the first one ever, it was also a Swedish scholar, Dr. Gabriella Åhmansson, who wrote the first doctoral thesis on Montgomery’s work, A Life and its Mirrors: a Feminist Reading of L. M. Montgomery’s fiction. Vol. 1, An Introduction to Lucy Maud Montgomery: Anne Shirley, published in 1991.

It is therefore a joy that also the first international conference on Montgomery’s work outside Canada now takes place in Sweden.
